PReS-FINAL-2220: Cochlear involvement in FMF

Introduction FMF is a monogenic autoinflammatory disease with recurring episodes of fever and serositis attacks. FMF is associated with mutations in pyrin. On the other hand mutations in a molecule in the same pathway, cryopyrin, is characterized by inflammatory features involving the inner ear as well. A study has suggested the involvement of cochlea in Behçet disease, which is a polygenic aut...

PReS-FINAL-2219: Evaluation of autonomic function in FMF

Introduction Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is characterized by acute and recurrent attacks of fever and polyserositis. It is associated with conduction disturbances and rhythm abnormalities. Heart rate variability (HRV) is the term used to indicate the fluctuation in cardiac frequency over time. HRV analysis is used to evaluate the condition of the autonomous nervous system, which regulate...

PReS-FINAL-2215: Genotype-phenotype correlations in children with Familial Mediterranean Fever in Germany

Introduction Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is one of the most common autoinflammatory diseases (AID). A variety of relevant mutations in the MEFV gene have been demonstrated. Pro-inflammatory S100 proteins correlate with disease activity in autoinflammatory disorders, and have been previously correlated with clinically active FMF. Here, we describe the association between these biomarkers ...

Behçet's disease and hereditary periodic fever syndromes: casual association or causal relationship?

OBJECTIVE Mutations in the MEFV and the type 1 TNF receptor (TNFRSF 1A) genes have recently been linked to familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and TNF receptor-associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS), respectively. A higher prevalence of Behçet's disease (BD) among FMF patients has been described compared to the general population. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether FMF TRAPS and BD coul...

SIR, Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a genetic disease with autosomal recessive transmission, occuring mainly in Middle-Eastern and eastern Mediterranean populations. Haplotype and mutation analysis has helped us trace the origins of this disease to the Fertile Crescent, located in the eastern Mediterranean [1]. Another rheumatological disease that is common in this area is Behçet’s disea...
